1. Club Career
Sunil has played for ten different clubs so far, the first being Delhi-based City Club, which he joined as a 17-year-old. He has also represented Delhi in the Santosh Trophy.
2. Passion takes charge
After class 12, he quit studies since he landed on the opportunity to represent India at the Asian School Championships in Malaysia.
3. The National Debut
Sunil debuted for India’s under 20 in 2004. He played 3 games and scored 2 goals, but his senior national debut was in 2005 for a young Indian team touring Pakistan.
4. Chhetri goes international!
Chhetri went international on March 24, 2010, when he signed for the American club Kansas City Wizards, becoming the third Indian to play outside South Asia and the first Indian to play Major League Soccer.
5. Make way for SC11
He is the first Indian footballer to score 50 international goals while playing for the national side. Currently, with 72 goals, he is the highest ever goal-scorer in Indian football history. Overall, it’s the joint-10th most in international football history and second most after Cristiano Ronaldo (99) among active footballers.
6. Record Setter Chhetri
Sunil Chhetri has won the most number of AIFF Men's Player of the Year awards. While he won it six times, IM Vijayan is second with three.
7. The ‘Drive’ to achieve ‘Goals’
Chhetri is a big fan of fancy sports cars and has admitted in the past that were it not for his father, he would have a collection of “10-12 sports cars”.
